I’m assuming that by your interest in this article, most of you already have your own home-brewed Player 3? Maybe even a fourth or fifth little spawn to fulfill all those board game requirements? At least that was my plan until (more…)

Whether you’re teaching a game to your friends or doing a professional demonstration, how you teach a game can lead your players into gaming bliss or frustrated failure.
This has become exceedingly clear to me after sitting through several demos and leaving disappointed in what I thought would be a good game. To be honest demoing a game can be hard sometimes. You can be nervous or have a super rowdy crowd. You could be showing a game to people who have never seen a board game before and seriously even some instruction booklets get these simple steps wrong.
So I’ve devised a quick reference to help everyone out.
How to Demo a Game… better!

Once upon a time Desert Sky Games, in Gilbert, AZ, was a hub for Magic the Gathering players. They focused on having the best supported games, turnouts and merchandise. However over the recent months I’ve been hearing some really weird things. From the disgruntled recounts of their reduced MTG table space. To the constant reorganizing/merchandising of the store. For the most part I’ve dismissed these recounts but I never truly expected the most recent and depressing article on DSG’s Blog spot.

So, you’ve already identified your local game store’s specialty. This is really important as it will play an intricate part in how busy the store is and what types of gamers like to hang out there. So what’s the secret to a successful game site with the right type of players?

I was talking with a fellow Meetup member this weekend and he asked me, “What is the best store to host an RPG at?” I couldn’t help but smile and nod back to him as I fully understood his frustration. We were sitting in the middle of a store that was hosting MTG Grand Prix qualifier event and we had to shout at each other just to carry on our conversation over the attendees.
It also made me realize that not everyone knows how to pick the right game store for their events. This can really make or break your game. Not all game stores are created equal and I’m going to show you exactly how to evaluate each for your gaming pleasure.
