First off I love the art in The Grizzled. It really gives off that “old war-time” feel to it. Which is perfect because this is a cooperative game centered around surviving the trenches of the first world war. Although the theme might seem depressing for the holidays, this is certainly an amazing and strategic card game. One that will bring your family to the table and working together for only $19.00.

Lately I’ve gotten a lot of questions about my child playing board games at such a young age. I hear a lot of people saying “my kid runs off with all the pieces” or “my child is too hyper to play” and “they get frustrated too easily”. Which are all valid concerns and completely normal for children when they’re starting out.
My child didn’t come out of the womb with a pair of D6 and comprehensive instruction booklet. Like any normal kid she pretty much tears through the house like a giant ferret on crack but if you take a little time and effort to cultivate the necessary skills; your kid can play any board game. So before you start the process, as a family you need to sit down and decided what age your child’s gaming experience will start. Ours started at 2 years old and I’m sure you’re asking me “why such a young age?”. Our goal wasn’t to make a gaming minion (well actually, it kind of was a requirement we needed to fill for all 3 player games) but it was the age she started to show interest in gaming and that’s the most important indicator on when to start. For the Seventh Day of Christmas we got Tiny Epic Galaxies.
Tiny Epic Galaxies is just … well it’s amazing. It’s a full and complex board game packed into a tiny pocket sized box. Also the people over at Gamelyn Games do an excellent job of making high quality products. So at a price of $25.00 this becomes my #1 game to pass out for holidays to my gaming friends.

For the Sixth of Christmas we got Bang! The Dice Game.
Bang! The Dice Game is a small game with the same premise of it’s original “Bang! The Card game”. Although this time you’re rolling a set of dice instead of going through a deck of cards. Which gamers apparently love because this little beauty is ranked higher on Board Game Geek and receives a much better reception to newer players. So with a price of $18.00 it’s a must have bluffing game for your collection.

As I’ve been browsing other gaming sites I’ve noticed something awful, most of these “Gift Lists” have been created for those just getting into the gaming industry. They focus on popular games that any hardcore board gamer already has in their gaming closet. Which doesn’t help my fellow Meeple obsessed people!
